Greetings! If we only had the Lord's death (& not His resurrection), then we couldn't call the writings of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John "gospels." (“Gospel” means “good news.”) We would have to speak of the Tragedy of Matthew, the Tragedy of Mark, etc. Without the resurrection, Christianity is turned into just another religion. Those who doubt the resurrection can only put forth that the Lord Jesus was a good example for us & Christians should follow His example. They would propose that the better we follow His example & teachings the closer we are to heaven. BUT, this is what all other religions teach--follow their prophet & his writings. In this system there is no lasting soul satisfaction. What we have in the Resurrected Lord is: joy, assurance & relationship. We Christians have joy! That’s why we sing. We don’t chant mournfully. We sing loudly--Up from the grave He arose! I know that my Redeemer liveth! Christ the Lord is risen today! The Lord is risen; with Him we also rose! He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today! We Christians don’t meet regularly on Friday--the day He died. We meet on Sunday--the day He rose from the dead! Besides joy, we have assurance! He keeps His Word! He said He would rise from the dead after 3 days & He did! He said, “Finished!” & I know my sins are paid for! I’m not trusting what I can do. I’m trusting what He has done! I know I’m saved. I know I have eternal life. Sadly, most people associated with Christianity believe that “Jesus did His part but I must do my part for salvation.” There is no assurance in this thinking. If you count on yourself for salvation you will never know if you’ve done enough (& you haven’t & never could)! I hope you are a “Jesus paid it all” Christian. Sin had left a crimson stain. He washed it white as snow. Besides joy & assurance, we believers in the risen Savior have relationship. You can’t have a good relationship with a dead man, & that’s all that’s available in the religions of the world. The communists mummified Lenin, but he didn’t help them after death & eventually the Soviet Union fell. Neither Lenin, nor Mohammed nor Buddha nor any other religious leader can help from the grave! My Lord Jesus is living in Heaven. He intercedes for me there as my Great High Priest. He continues to apply the forgiveness of His sacrificial death to my needs day by day! He speaks to me through His Word. I speak to Him & to His Father in prayer. He has placed His Spirit in me to know His ways & help me move in the right direction. I have a relationship with the Living God! I am never alone! I have the hope that the Lord Jesus is coming back for me at any time (&, of course, no doubter in the resurrection believes in the return of the Lord). I might not even die. I am in His family & will spend eternity with my Savior in His Father’s house! What a future! What a Savior! The Lord Jesus says that eternal life is really the right relationship with Him & His Father. This is eternal life that they may know Thee, the only true God, & Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent!--John 17:3. May the Lord stir each of us believers to appreciate all the more the wonder of our Lord’s death & resurrection, & may any doubter in the resurrection turn to belief in the Savior. It’s the resurrection of the Lord Jesus that distinguishes Christianity from the religions of the world.
